EAM S Jaishankar, Mongolia FM Review Strategic Partnership In Ulaanbaatar

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Mongolian Foreign Minister Battsetseg Batmunkh in Ulaanbaatar on Monday, with the two leaders reviewing progress in India-Mongolia cooperation across a range of sectors and discussing ways to further strengthen their Strategic Partnership.

Following the meeting, Jaishankar said the discussions reflected the warmth, strength, and promise of bilateral ties.

The Ministers reviewed cooperation in development projects, capacity building, culture, education, security, and multilateral forums, while also exploring opportunities in mining, clean energy, and agri-processing.

Jaishankar reiterated India’s commitment to advancing its close relationship with Mongolia, describing the country as both a third neighbour and a spiritual partner.

Earlier in the day, the Minister arrived in Mongolia on a two-day official visit and expressed optimism about productive engagements aimed at deepening the special partnership.

The visit includes meetings with Mongolia’s top leadership as both countries seek to expand cooperation in strategic and economic sectors.

India and Mongolia established diplomatic relations in 1955, with India becoming the first country outside the Socialist bloc to forge diplomatic ties with Mongolia.

India also supported Mongolia’s membership in the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement.

Last October, Mongolian President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa paid a four-day State Visit to India, during which he met President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Vice President CP Radhakrishnan.

After concluding his visit to Mongolia, Jaishankar will travel to South Korea on June 24-25.

During the visit, the Minister will likely hold talks with South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun and deliver the keynote address at the Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity.
