EAM Jaishankar Reaches Zurich, Reviews India’s Ties With Switzerland & Liechtenstein Ahead Of UNGA

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar arrived at Zurich airport on Monday while travelling to New York, where he will lead the Indian delegation during the high-level week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The Embassy of India in Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein said Ambassador Kumar received Jaishankar at the airport and briefed him on recent developments in India’s relations with Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The briefing also covered recent high-level visits involving the three countries.

Jaishankar will address the UN General Assembly on September 26 as part of India’s participation in the annual high-level session.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the minister will lead the Indian delegation during the high-level week in New York.

His visit comes amid increased diplomatic attention on India-US relations following new US measures concerning countries purchasing Russian energy. US legislation has granted the American President expanded powers to impose tariffs on countries buying Russian oil and gas.

India has maintained that it will protect its energy security while continuing to diversify its sources of supply.

The Ministry of External Affairs has said India remains committed to securing energy supplies for its population and will make sourcing decisions according to market conditions.

Jaishankar’s participation in the UNGA will provide an opportunity for India to engage with representatives and foreign ministers from several countries on international and bilateral issues.

His Zurich stopover also allowed him to receive an update on India’s ties with Switzerland and Liechtenstein before continuing his journey to New York. Further diplomatic engagements are expected during his UNGA visit.
