Delhi-NCR Likely To Remain Dry As Capital’s AQI Hits 62-Day High

Delhi-NCR is likely to remain largely dry on Monday, with no significant rainfall expected in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad, according to the latest India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast.

Delhi is likely to see mainly clear skies, while parts of the National Capital Region may experience partly cloudy conditions.

Temperatures are likely to stay around 35-36°C as the southwest monsoon withdraws from northwest India. Delhi may record 25-35°C with no rain.

Noida will remain dry at 27-36°C, while Gurugram and Ghaziabad may see partly cloudy skies and temperatures up to 36°C.

Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality has deteriorated amid stagnant winds, a lack of rainfall and local emissions. The Capital recorded an average AQI of 160 at 4 pm on Sunday, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), placing it in the ‘moderate’ category. The AQI rose to 165 by 10 PM.

Sunday’s reading was Delhi’s highest average AQI in 62 days and the worst since July 19, when the city recorded an AQI of 171. The AQI had stood at 88 on Friday and 118 on Saturday.

PM2.5 and ozone emerged as the main pollutants. Six of Delhi’s 45 active monitoring stations recorded ‘poor’ air quality, including IGI Airport, IIT Delhi, Chandni Chowk, Okhla Phase-2, Patparganj and Sirifort.

The Capital had enjoyed comparatively cleaner air during the monsoon, with rainfall and stronger winds helping disperse pollutants. However, Sunday recorded the highest pollution levels in Delhi so far this month.
