The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro has appointed Dr Janice Darbari as the Doyen of the Honorary Consular Corps of Montenegro worldwide.
Montenegro announced the appointment on its Statehood Day, observed on 13 July 2026, in recognition of Dr Janice Darbari’s contribution to strengthening diplomatic relations and international cooperation.
Dr Janice Darbari described the honour as a profound privilege. She said the recognition reflects the collective efforts of the global network of Montenegro’s Honorary Consuls and reaffirmed her commitment to advancing bilateral engagement.
The appointment comes as India and Montenegro celebrate 18 years of steadily expanding diplomatic relations.
Over the years, both countries have built their partnership on mutual respect, shared sovereignty, and a common vision for international cooperation.
The occasion also marks an important milestone for the Honorary Consulate General of Montenegro in India, which has played a key role in promoting diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties since its establishment.
Reflecting on the journey, Dr Janice Darbari expressed gratitude to Montenegro’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for acknowledging the efforts of Honorary Consuls across the world. She noted that the establishment of the first diplomatic office of Montenegro in India on 1 January 2008 laid the foundation for stronger bilateral engagement. She added that the achievement is a matter of pride for both India and Montenegro.
Dr Janice Darbari reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships, expanding bilateral trade and enhancing people-to-people exchanges between the two nations. She also conveyed her wishes for Montenegro’s continued peace, progress and prosperity.
The Honorary Consulate General of Montenegro in India will continue to promote initiatives that encourage economic collaboration, cultural exchange and stronger diplomatic engagement, ensuring that the friendship between India and Montenegro continues to grow in the years ahead.
