Indian Sailor Killed As Iranian Missiles Hit UAE Oil Tankers In Strait Of Hormuz

An Indian sailor was killed after Iranian cruise missiles hit two United Arab Emirates (UAE) oil tankers sailing through the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday.

The UAE Ministry of Defence said the missiles struck the tankers Mombasa and Al Bahiyah as they passed through the southern shipping lane in Omani territorial waters.

The strike killed one Indian crew member aboard the Mombasa and injured eight others. The injured included six Indian nationals and two Ukrainian nationals, with four of them reported to be in serious condition.

The explosions damaged both vessels and ignited fires on board. Rescue teams later contained the flames and secured the tankers.

The UAE government condemned the missile strike, calling it a blatant breach of international law and a direct threat to peace and stability in the region.

The Ministry of Defence said the country retains the right to respond to the incident. It added that the UAE will take every necessary step to protect its territory, citizens, residents and strategic assets.

Officials also urged people to rely only on verified government updates and avoid sharing unconfirmed information.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also denounced the attack in a separate statement.

The incident comes as military tensions continue to escalate across the Gulf.

Earlier, the UAE activated its air defence systems to counter incoming missile and drone threats. Bahrain also advised residents to move to safe locations as a precaution.

Iranian state-affiliated media later reported that Iran had launched strikes on several US military installations in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Qatar following recent US military action.

The reported targets included radar systems, communications facilities, an ammunition depot, and the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important maritime trade corridors. The latest attack has intensified concerns over security in the region as the conflict continues to widen.
