‘Distance Is No Barrier’: PM Modi Lauds Cultural Ties With Indian Diaspora In Buenos Aires

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his arrival in Buenos Aires on Saturday, highlighted the strength of cultural ties that transcend geographical distances, following a warm reception from the Indian community in Argentina.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Distance is no barrier when it comes to cultural connect! Honoured by the gracious welcome from the Indian community in Buenos Aires. It is truly moving to see how, thousands of kilometres away from home, the spirit of India shines brightly through our Indian community.”

The Prime Minister was greeted by members of the Indian diaspora with spirited chants of ‘Modi-Modi’, ‘Jai Hind’, and ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ late Friday evening, turning the Alvear Palace Hotel into a scene of celebration.

A colourful traditional Indian classical dance performance added to the festivities, showcasing India’s rich cultural legacy in the heart of South America.

Personal connection with the community

PM Modi also took time to interact with the community, signing autographs and exchanging warm greetings, giving the visit a personal and emotional tone.

This enthusiastic welcome came shortly after his ceremonial reception at Ezeiza International Airport, marking the beginning of a significant diplomatic engagement.

PM Modi’s two-day trip is the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Argentina in 57 years, underlining its historic and strategic relevance.

“Landed in Buenos Aires for a bilateral visit which will focus on augmenting relations with Argentina. I’m eager to be meeting President Javier Milei and holding detailed talks with him,” Prime Minister Modi posted on X.

The visit will include paying homage to Argentine national hero General Jose de San Martin, a ceremonial welcome, delegation-level talks with President Milei, and a formal luncheon.

PM Modi included Argentina in his broader five-nation tour to strengthen India’s engagement with the Global South.
