Crisis In Middle East: G7 Aligns On Peace; Slams Iran For Terror Support

Iran-Israel tensions escalated into the fifth consecutive day as leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) convened at the summit in Canada and issued a unified statement underscoring their support for Israel’s right to self-defence.

The declaration comes as missile and drone exchanges between the two nations continue to escalate, drawing global concern.

The joint communique reaffirmed the bloc’s commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East, emphasising Israel’s right to protect its citizens.

“We reiterate our support for the security of Israel. We also affirm the importance of the protection of civilians,” the statement read.

The G7 nations did not mince words in identifying Iran as the ‘principal source of regional instability and terror’.

The leaders warned that Tehran must never be permitted to acquire nuclear weapons and called for a broader diplomatic resolution to curb hostilities.

“We have been consistently clear that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon,” the G7 leaders stated. “We urge that the resolution of the Iranian crisis leads to a broader de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, including a ceasefire in Gaza.”

Gaza ceasefire urged

The leaders also voiced concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza, urging all parties to strive for a ceasefire.

They further emphasised the need for protecting civilians and restoring calm through diplomatic channels.

This call aligns with growing international appeals to end the violence, as civilian casualties continue to rise in the broader Middle East region.

With oil prices fluctuating amid rising tensions, the G7 statement highlighted the group’s readiness to act in preserving global energy market stability.

“We will remain vigilant to the implications for international energy markets and stand ready to coordinate with like-minded partners to safeguard market stability,” it stated.

In a dramatic development, United States President Donald Trump cut short his participation in the G7 Summit by a day to respond to the escalating crisis.

Posting on Truth Social, he urged civilians to evacuate Tehran following Israel’s warnings of imminent airstrikes.

“Everyone should evacuate Tehran,” Trump wrote, reinforcing fears of a large-scale offensive.

He stated that Iran could have avoided the conflict by accepting a nuclear agreement with the US, which has now reached a deadlock.

With evacuation warnings issued in Tehran and global leaders calling for calm, the situation remains volatile.

The G7’s collective stance is aimed at curbing further deterioration while sending a firm signal against terrorism and nuclear proliferation in the region.
