Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal
As many Indians celebrated New Year’s Eve at home with friends and family, food and grocery delivery services saw their highest-ever single-day orders. The CEOs of food delivery services like Swiggy and Zomato provided some fascinating data on X about the spike in orders that broke records from previous years. The businesses also provided information on what users requested to be rung in 2024.
Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal shared one such statistic, saying that on New Year’s Eve, Indians left more than ₹ 97 lakh as tips for the delivery partners. I adore you, India! To the delivery partners serving you tonight, you have already tipped over ₹97 lakhs,” he wrote.
One user commented on the post, saying, “I would love to learn more about tipping behavior in India.” What is the average tip per order, the percentage of the order value, etc.?
Someone else said, “They deserve it.” “This is great!!” wrote a third person. Very Joyful. ”This is fantastic news. I hope @zomato also had special perks on December 31 evening for the thousands of their delivery partners across cities that make these tweets of success and joy possible?” said a fourth.
A fifth said, ”Plus many do in cash.” Regardless of the value, individuals left nearly one crore in tips. That is respectable. That’s why you feel compelled to believe in the goodness of a select few people, even in situations where life appears harsh, unfair, and primarily evil. Otherwise, things won’t be going smoothly in the world.

Mr. Goyal added, ‘Fun fact: We’ve delivered almost as many orders on NYE 23 as we did on NYE 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 combined. Excited about the future!”
