Tanya Appachu Kaul, a Mumbai-based lawyer and content developer, posted a list of odd reasons why couples today file for divorce, and the list has the internet buzzing. Some people believe that marriages nowadays are a charade, despite the fact that many others blame society’s patriarchal mentality for many splits.
One of the reasons, Ms. Kaul stated on Instagram, was that the wife dressed in a “vulgar manner” while they were on their honeymoon. She added that the spouse did not give her adequate time to prepare for the exams for the Union Public Service Commission.
Other points made in her now-viral clip were “wife doesn’t know how to cook and had to leave for work without breakfast” and “wife refused to touch husband’s feet”.
Another woman, meanwhile, expressed her displeasure that her husband “gives too much love and attention and doesn’t fight at all” and claimed that this was the cause of her issues. The attorney was most likely alluding to a case that surfaced in 2020, in which a woman from Uttar Pradesh sought divorce from her spouse on the grounds that he loved her too much and that they had never fought during the 18 months of their marriage.
The reel has received over a thousand likes and 1.6 million views since it was shared. The caption on the photo asks, “Why do you have to get married?” Matlab Shaadi hi kyun karna hai.
These days, “people want marriage, not weddings,” a user commented.
Another person argued that premarital counseling should be made mandatory.
Another user said, “Notice how men are asking for divorce because wives wouldn’t obey them and wives because they aren’t feeling loved.”
One person suggested that people quit getting married altogether.
“It shows that for those looking for excuses, even trivial issues can be a trigger,” said an individual.
