Ford Motor may be keen to collaborate with a local manufacturing partner for its return.
Global automotive giant Ford Motor is reportedly gearing up for a comeback in India after a two-year absence, with plans to introduce multiple new products, including a compact SUV. According to a report by Hindu Businessline, the company may utilize its manufacturing facility in Chennai to produce hybrid and electric vehicles.
Ford has purportedly patented the design for the new SUV, which is currently not available in any global markets and is expected to compete in the segment dominated by the Hyundai Creta. In its comeback strategy, Ford is considering potential collaborations with local manufacturing partners, with discussions reportedly underway with the Tata Group for a potential joint venture. However, the details of such negotiations remain unverified by Business Today.

The Chennai plant, with a production capacity of 200,000 vehicles and 340,000 engines annually, could play a pivotal role in Ford’s reentry into the Indian market. Under the leadership of CEO Jim Farley, Ford is strategically focused on the electrification and digital transformation of key segments, particularly in which it holds leadership positions, such as trucks, SUVs, commercial vehicles, and performance cars.
