Users of Gmail, take note! Google just revealed that it will begin removing dormant Gmail accounts starting in December 2023, so check if it’s been a long since you checked in. Google policy states that accounts that are not used for two years will be removed.
If you use your Gmail, Docs, Calendar, or Photos on a regular basis, don’t worry about losing access to them. Only inactive accounts are impacted by this change. It’s time to get started if you haven’t logged into your Google Account in a while.

The goal of this policy modification is to increase security. Accounts that are idle or old are susceptible to cyberattacks. Google stated, “If a Google Account has not been used or signed into for at least 2 years, we may delete the account and its contents.” This includes information from Google Workspace, which consists of Google Photos, Calendar, Meet, Docs, Drive, and Gmail.
Google suggests doing some easy measures to keep your account from being deleted. Before deleting your account, they will send several reminders to the recovery email you gave as well as the email address associated with your account.

Here, security is Google’s main priority. Cybercriminals find inactive accounts to be appealing targets. These accounts typically receive less security checks, lack two-factor authentication, and have passwords that are either old or reused.
According to Google’s research, inactive accounts have a lower likelihood of having two-step verification enabled by at least 10 times, which makes them a prime target for scammers and fraudsters. This deletion procedure is a preventative measure to shield consumers from possible security breaches; it is not random. Make sure you check in before the approaching deadline in order to guarantee that your Gmail account stays operational.
