Humane unveiled their wearable “Ai Pin,” supported by former Apple executives and Microsoft

A star-studded roster of co-founders and executives includes Humane, a Silicon Valley firm. On Thursday, the company unveiled a $699 gadget that promises to put state-of-the-art artificial intelligence in your pocket.

The gadget, dubbed the “Ai Pin,” is meant to be worn on clothing and may be tapped to speak with a virtual assistant that uses cloud computing capacity from Microsoft and technologies from OpenAI, the company that created ChatGPT. It projects text and monochromatic images onto the user’s hand using a laser projection technology.

Established by former Apple employees who contributed to the iPhone, Humane is just one of several Silicon Valley startups searching for the next big thing in consumer electronics. However, the business has categorically rejected the mixed-reality headgear that businesses like Apple and Meta Platforms are developing. Imran Chaudhri, the president and co-founder of Humane, stated that “the future is not on your face” during an earlier this year Ai Pin demonstration.

Instead, Humane is selling a gadget that doesn’t have a conventional screen and communicates with the user nearly exclusively through artificial intelligence. The virtual assistant on the Pin attempts to outpace competitors by crafting messages in the user’s voice and providing a “Catch Me Up” function to condense an unorganized email inbox. In addition, the Pin has a camera that may be used to capture images or to scan objects, such as food, and provide the user with an estimated nutritional value.

“Ai Pin is the embodiment of our vision to integrate AI into the fabric of daily life, enhancing our capabilities without overshadowing our humanity,” Chaudhri stated in a press release.

According to the company, the Ai Pin will go on sale in the US on November 16. Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, Microsoft, and other donors have contributed $241 million to Humane.
