Bengaluru has a notorious reputation for heavy traffic and hours-long bottlenecks. People are always talking about the terrible traffic situation and the lack of public transportation. As a result, a lot of people rely on cab aggregators like Ola and Uber and take private taxis. When an X user recently wanted to go from the airport to Electronic City, he was taken aback by the Uber fare. User Rajesh Bhattad posted a screenshot of Uber charging almost ₹ 2,000 for a trip from Kempegowda International Airport to a Bengaluru suburb in the southeast on the microblogging platform.
“The Uber pricing past midnight from Bengaluru Airport to HSR,” Mr Bhattad wrote in the caption of the post. He even thanked BMTC (Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation), suggesting that he took a bus to reach home instead of the cab.
The screenshot was notably taken after midnight, when surge pricing or a nightly fee are typically applied by taxi services. It indicated that he would pay ₹ 1,931 for an Uber Go trip to his house, but ₹ 1,846 for an Uber Go Sedan and Uber Premier trip. For an Uber XL, the fare went up to ₹ 2,495 further.

Social media users expressed surprise at this pricing. A user recommended going to HSR Layout via the Vayu Vajra bus. Mr. Bhattad responded, “I took the same. 265 per person. Only challenge is getting another Uber for the last mile connectivity,” he said.
A number of users joined the discussion and concurred that the fares for app-based taxi services have increased beyond reasonable limits. Another person mentioned that if the taxi’s pickup location is outside of the airport zone, the fares would decrease by 30 to 50%.
“You can try the simple hack to reduce the Uber/OLA fair by almost 30-50%. In the pick-up location – Don’t select Airport zone (Most of the travellers do this simple mistake). Instead walk few miles & select the pick-up just outside airport boundaries,” the tweet read.
