Rupee Opens Stronger As Oil Volatility And Global Cues Shape Markets

The Indian rupee began Monday’s trading session on a firmer note, gaining against the US dollar as investors reacted to shifts in global commodity prices and easing geopolitical concerns.

The currency opened at Rs 92.83 per dollar, supported by lower crude price expectations earlier and policy support from the Reserve Bank of India.

Market participants indicated that sentiment towards the rupee remains cautiously positive in the short term.

The US Dollar Index edged higher, reflecting a modest strengthening of the greenback against major global currencies.

Analysts noted that the rupee could see further appreciation if it remains below the Rs 93 level, while Rs 92–Rs 92.3 will likely provide near-term support. They further cautioned that geopolitical developments could quickly alter the trend.

In commodities, oil prices moved sharply higher during the session. The global benchmark Brent crude approached the $100 per barrel mark, while West Texas Intermediate also recorded strong gains.

The rise followed renewed tensions in West Asia, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil shipments.

Iran’s warning over tighter control of the waterway added to supply concerns, driving prices upward.

Domestic crude futures on the Multi Commodity Exchange mirrored the global trend, posting notable gains.

In contrast, precious metals faced selling pressure. Gold and silver prices declined in early trade, both in domestic and international markets.

Traders attributed the weakness to profit booking and shifting investor preference towards the strengthening dollar.

Experts said gold continues to find support at lower levels, with potential upside if key resistance levels are crossed. Silver, however, remains under pressure unless it breaks above its near-term resistance band.

Overall, markets will likely remain sensitive to global developments, particularly movements in oil prices and geopolitical signals. These factors continue to influence both currency and commodity trends.
