The southwest monsoon continues to withdraw from several parts of North India, bringing drier conditions to Delhi, Punjab and Haryana. However, the India Meteorological Department forecasts continued rainfall across parts of southern and northeastern India.

The monsoon withdrew from Delhi on September 23, and weather conditions now support its further retreat from northern and central parts of the country.

Delhi will likely see mostly dry weather over the coming days, with clear to partly cloudy skies. Punjab and Haryana will also experience reduced rainfall as the monsoon retreats.

Meanwhile, rain will continue across several southern states. Kerala and Mahe could receive fairly widespread rainfall, while the IMD forecasts isolated heavy showers over Kerala, coastal Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Several northeastern states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura, could also receive rain in the coming days.

The IMD expects rainfall activity to remain subdued across much of the country during October. However, some areas could still receive isolated heavy showers.

As the monsoon withdraws, India now moves into the post-monsoon season.

Weather systems will increasingly influence the southern peninsula and parts of eastern and northeastern India.

Northern states, meanwhile, will experience drier conditions as the country transitions away from the southwest monsoon.
