Delhi Wakes Up To Rain Relief As IMD Issues Yellow Alert

Moderate showers drenched several areas of Delhi on Monday morning, bringing relief from the prolonged spell of heat and high humidity.

The rainfall improved weather conditions across the capital after residents experienced uncomfortable temperatures for several days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast fresh spells of rain over the next 48 hours and placed Delhi under a yellow alert. It expects light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms at isolated places during this period.

The IMD has projected daytime temperatures between 32°C and 35°C, while night-time temperatures are expected to stay between 26°C and 28°C over the next few days.

Before the change in weather, Delhi registered a maximum temperature of 38.3°C on Sunday, which was three degrees higher than the seasonal average.

The minimum temperature reached 31°C, exceeding the normal level by four degrees and highlighting the intensity of the recent humid conditions.

Monsoon Outlook

The IMD has indicated that strengthening monsoon activity will bring intermittent cloud cover and scattered rainfall to northern India in the coming days.

These changing weather patterns will keep temperatures under control and provide additional relief.

The department also expects the southwest monsoon to regain momentum after remaining weak for an extended period. It forecasts that the renewed monsoon activity will first affect the northeastern states before expanding into eastern, central and northern India.

Meteorologists have predicted widespread rainfall and thunderstorms across several regions, with isolated locations likely to receive heavy downpours.

The fresh spell of rain will bring significant relief to the Gangetic plains and parts of Central India, where prolonged hot and humid weather has affected residents for weeks.

India has recently remained under a ‘break monsoon’ phase, during which the monsoon trough shifted northwards and reduced rainfall across Central India and adjoining areas.

According to the IMD, the country has recorded 244.6 mm of rainfall so far this season against the normal average of 323.1 mm, resulting in an overall rainfall deficit of 24 per cent.
