Delhi-NCR witnessed a change in weather on Sunday as overnight rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds brought cooler conditions to the national capital and neighbouring cities.
Rainfall late on Saturday night affected Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad, providing relief from the relatively warm weather of recent days.
The change also raised hopes of some respite from pollution across the region.
Delhi recorded a temperature of 18°C at the Safdarjung weather station early on Sunday. Humidity stood at 98 per cent, while the weather dashboard reported misty conditions around 5.30 am.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature is likely to remain between 31°C and 33°C, while the minimum may range from 16°C to 18°C.
The department forecasts mainly clear skies during the day, with surface winds likely to strengthen in the afternoon.
The overnight rain and gusty winds marked a shift after several days of comparatively warm weather, bringing cooler conditions across the national capital region.
Delhi’s air quality also showed signs of improvement. The Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 181 around 5 am on Sunday, placing it in the moderate category.
The reading marked an improvement from Saturday morning’s AQI of 191 and Friday’s reading of 230, according to the dashboard data.
However, pollution remained a concern in several parts of the capital, where monitoring stations continued to record air quality in the poor category.
While the rainfall brought temporary relief from the warm weather, its impact on pollution levels varied across Delhi-NCR. Residents can expect relatively cooler conditions in the morning, although temperatures are likely to rise during the day.
