Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday announced the success of Operation Trident, a coordinated anti-narcotics crackdown that dismantled an international drug-trafficking network across Assam, Mizoram and Manipur. The operation led to 18 arrests and exposed hawala transactions worth ₹100 crore.
In a post on X, Shah said the agencies carried out simultaneous raids at 38 locations across the three northeastern states on October 23. He described the operation as another major strike against drug trafficking under the PM Narendra Modi government.
Modi Govt deals another lethal blow against drugs with Operation Trident.
Our agencies launched a barrage of simultaneous crackdowns across 38 locations in Assam, Mizoram and Manipur on 23 October, smashing an international narco-cartel. The operation revealed ₹100 crore worth of hawala transactions, froze 1,424 bank accounts, attached properties worth ₹17.82 crore, seized 500 detonators and ₹12 lakh in cash, and led to the arrest of 18 people.
The network trafficked narcotics across the borders of India, Myanmar and Bangladesh through the Death Triangle Corridor. The offensive attests to India’s Himalayan resolve to realise the mission of eradicating every drug network by 31 December 2029. India will hammer until the last nail is driven into the coffin of drug cartels.
Heartiest congratulations to the anti-narcotics team comprising central agencies, and police forces of the three states.

Shah said the cartel trafficked narcotics across the borders of India, Myanmar and Bangladesh through the so-called Death Triangle Corridor. He congratulated the anti-narcotics teams and police forces from the three states for their coordinated efforts.
The Home Minister linked the crackdown to the government’s wider commitment to eliminating drug networks across the country by December 31, 2029.
He said the operation demonstrated India’s determination to dismantle drug cartels and disrupt their financial networks.
On October 21, Shah announced an intensified nationwide anti-drug campaign through 2029, aiming to achieve a drug-free India by December 31, 2029.
He warned that narcotics threaten young people, weaken the economy and fund anti-national activities. He urged police forces to work towards the target set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
