Delhi-NCR Braces For 44°C Heat As IMD Forecasts Rain Later This Week

Delhi-NCR will face intense heat on Tuesday, with temperatures expected to touch 44°C as the southwest monsoon advances across parts of India. Hot and humid conditions are likely to persist throughout the day.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds of up to 60 kmph in Delhi-NCR on June 11 and 12.

Temperatures will stay between 42°C and 44°C until then, while strong winds of 20-30 kmph, with gusts up to 40 kmph, sweep across the region.

Heatwave conditions will also persist in Haryana, Punjab, West Rajasthan and parts of Uttar Pradesh.

From June 11, a fresh western disturbance will bring thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall across northwest India, providing temporary relief from the intense heat.

The IMD expects the southwest monsoon to reach Delhi, Noida, Gurugram and Ghaziabad between June 25 and 30.

Keralam, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Northeast India and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Extremely heavy rainfall is likely at isolated locations in Keralam and Karnataka, while states across the Northeast may witness very heavy showers.

The weather department has warned of possible waterlogging, localised flooding and travel disruptions in vulnerable areas.

Since arriving over Keralam on June 4, the southwest monsoon has advanced into parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Conditions remain favourable for its further progress into central and eastern India over the coming days.

Following its expected arrival in Delhi, the monsoon will continue advancing across northwestern India, covering Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir.
