Consumers across the country will face higher cooking gas expenses after state-owned oil marketing companies increased domestic LPG cylinder prices by Rs 29.
The latest revision represents the second increase in domestic cooking gas rates in recent months amid continuing pressure from international energy markets.
From Sunday, a standard 14.2-kg LPG cylinder in Delhi will cost Rs 942, compared with the previous rate of Rs 913, industry officials said.
The increase comes three months after oil companies raised LPG prices by Rs 60 per cylinder in March.
That earlier revision followed disruptions in global energy supplies caused by the ongoing conflict in West Asia, which contributed to a surge in international fuel prices.
Despite the March increase, industry sources indicated that fuel retailers continued to incur substantial losses on domestic LPG sales.
Estimates suggested that public sector oil companies were absorbing losses of nearly Rs 703 on every cylinder sold before the latest adjustment.
The latest LPG revision coincides with a wider rise in fuel prices.
Since mid-May, petrol and diesel prices have increased by a combined Rs 7.50 per litre, while CNG rates have gone up by around Rs 6 per kilogram.
Industry assessments suggest that oil companies are still selling petrol and diesel below their actual costs.
Retailers reportedly continue to absorb losses estimated at Rs 11 per litre on petrol and Rs 33.6 per litre on diesel as global crude oil prices remain high.
Authorities have not yet allowed the complete transfer of international energy costs to consumers.
Instead, state-owned fuel retailers have shouldered part of the burden as the government attempts to contain inflation while maintaining the financial stability of oil marketing companies.
Ongoing geopolitical uncertainties in West Asia continue to create fluctuations in global energy markets, keeping pressure on crude oil and fuel prices worldwide.
