Volkswagen Begins Production Of New Taigun In Pune, Boost To ‘Make In India’ Push

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited on Tuesday announced the commencement of production of the updated Volkswagen Taigun at its Pune facility, marking a significant step in its ‘Make in India, for India and the world’ strategy.

The company said the refreshed Taigun comes with updated design elements and enhanced premium features, while being specifically tailored for Indian driving conditions. It continues to emphasise European driving dynamics, along with comfort and safety standards.

Managing Director and CEO Piyush Arora said the start of production reflects the maturity of the company’s manufacturing ecosystem in India. He noted that the Indian facilities are equipped to deliver globally competitive vehicles with high levels of localisation, catering to both domestic and export markets.

Brand Director Nitin Kohli highlighted that the Taigun has been a key pillar of the company’s SUV strategy since its launch and continues to play an important role in strengthening its portfolio.

Production Scale And Market Presence

Launched in 2021, the Taigun has built a strong presence with its focus on performance, comfort, and safety. The company said over 1.43 lakh units have been produced in India so far, with nearly 30 per cent exported to global markets.

The Pune-headquartered firm manages the Indian operations of multiple Volkswagen Group brands, including Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini, and Bentley. With 25 years of operations in India, it runs two manufacturing facilities at Chakan and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, with a combined annual production capacity of 3.15 lakh units.

Currently, the company operates around 700 customer touchpoints and employs nearly 5,000 people across its Indian operations.
