Google Reinstates Indian Apps After Government Intervention

Following intervention by the Narendra Modi government, Google reinstated all Indian apps it had previously removed, as reported by ANI. In response to this, Union Minister of Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, has called for a meeting with the search engine giant on Monday.

The restorative action came after Vaishnaw took a firm stance, asserting that the delisting of apps from the Google Play Store is not permitted. He emphasized India’s clarity on the matter, stating, “Our policy is very clear… our startups will get the protection that they need.”

Expressing his displeasure with the delisting, Vaishnaw stated, “I have already called Google… I have already called the app developers who have been delisted, we will be meeting them next week. This cannot be permitted… This kind of delisting cannot be permitted.”

On Saturday, Google had notified the stock exchanges that five apps from Info Edge—Naukri.com, Naukri Recruiter, Naukrigulf, 99acres, and Shiksha—had been removed from the Play Store. The search engine giant had taken this action against apps from 10 Indian developers for non-compliance with the payments policy.
