Facebook Account Hacked? Steps To Regain Access

If your Facebook account has been hacked, acting quickly can help protect your personal information, photos, messages and contacts.

Unexpected posts or comments, changes to your profile photo, password or contact details, unfamiliar login alerts, or trouble accessing your account can all be signs that someone else has gained access.

The first step is to use Facebook’s official hacked-account recovery process. Visit the Facebook account recovery page and follow the instructions to identify and secure your account. Using a phone or computer that you have previously used to log in can help with the recovery process.

If you cannot access the account, try entering any email address or phone number that may have been linked to it. You can also search using your Facebook name or username if necessary.

Once you regain access, change your password immediately. Go to Settings and Privacy, open Accounts Centre, select Password and Security, and choose Change Password.

Create a strong password that is different from passwords used on your other accounts.

If you no longer have access to the email address or phone number connected to Facebook, follow the additional recovery instructions provided during the account identification process.

Facebook may ask you to provide new contact information and complete security checks before allowing you to reset the password.

After recovering the account, review your security settings, check for unfamiliar login activity and remove any devices or account changes you do not recognise.

Enabling two-factor authentication can also provide an additional layer of security.

For the safest recovery, use Facebook’s official help and recovery pages rather than links sent through unknown messages or emails. Avoid sharing your password or verification codes with anyone claiming they can recover your account.
