Delhi Capitals announced on Tuesday that former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh will serve as the franchise’s assistant and batting coach ahead of the 2027 Indian Premier League season.
The 44-year-old brings extensive international experience, having represented India in 304 One-Day Internationals, 40 Tests and 58 T20 Internationals. His appointment marks his first formal coaching role and his debut in the IPL coaching setup.
Yuvraj returns to the Delhi franchise after representing Delhi Daredevils, as the team was then known, during the 2015 season.
The franchise acquired him for a record Rs 16 crore, making him the most expensive player in IPL history at the time. He featured in all 14 matches that season.
Yuvraj said he was excited to begin a new chapter with Delhi Capitals and highlighted his longstanding association with the franchise’s owners. He further expressed enthusiasm about working with Sourav Ganguly, popularly known as Dada, in a coaching capacity.
Delhi Capitals chairman and co-owner Parth Jindal welcomed the appointment, citing Yuvraj’s match-winning record, experience and ability to mentor emerging Indian cricketers.
Jindal said the franchise looked forward to his contribution alongside Ganguly and the coaching staff.
Co-owner Kiran Kumar Grandhi welcomed Yuvraj, highlighting his competitive spirit and understanding of the game. He further expressed confidence that the former cricketer’s insights would benefit the squad and the team’s campaign.
Yuvraj played key roles in India’s victories at the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup and the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup.
Across his IPL career, he appeared in 132 matches, scored 2,750 runs and claimed 36 wickets. His appointment, however, adds a former World Cup winner to Delhi Capitals’ coaching team as the franchise prepares for IPL 2027.
