Indian batter Virat Kohli has crossed the 9,000-run mark in Test cricket during the ongoing match against New Zealand at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Kohli became the fourth Indian to achieve this milestone, joining Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Sunil Gavaskar. He is the slowest to reach this feat, taking 197 innings.
Kohli hit his 31st Test fifty, scoring 70 runs with eight fours and a six, as India recovered from early pressure. Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan stitched a 136-run partnership after the dismissals of Yashasvi Jaiswal (35) and Rohit Sharma (52). India closed Day 3 at 231/3, trailing New Zealand by 125 runs. Sarfaraz Khan remained unbeaten on 70.
Earlier, New Zealand posted 402 in their first innings, thanks to Rachin Ravindra’s brilliant 134. His partnership of 137 with Tim Southee (65) is now the joint-highest eighth-wicket stand for New Zealand against India. Spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav were India’s standout bowlers, each claiming three wickets.
