Team India Begins Training In England Ahead Of Test Series Opener

Team India has officially kicked started their preparations for the much-awaited five-Test series in England, which marks the commencement of the 2025–27 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.

The squad, led by newly appointed captain Shubman Gill, engaged in intense training drills shortly after landing in the UK.

This series is symbolic of a generational shift in Indian cricket, following the recent Test retirements of veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

With the last Test series win in England dating back to 2007, India enters this tour with renewed vigour and high expectations.

Shubman Gill, now India’s 37th Test captain, shoulders the responsibility of leading this young side.

With 1893 runs from 32 Tests at an average of 35.1, including five centuries, Gill will aim to guide the team to success on English soil.

Training Kicks Off At Lord’s

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) offered fans a glimpse into Team India’s high-energy training session via social media, captioned, “First sight of #TeamIndia getting into the groove in England.”

The video showed pace spearheads Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh working alongside Gill, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, and wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant.

Under the close supervision of new head coach Gautam Gambhir and his coaching staff, the team trained at the iconic Lord’s Indoor Cricket Centre.

The series is scheduled to begin on 20 June in Leeds, followed by the second Test in Birmingham.

The historic Lord’s Cricket Ground will host the third Test starting on 10 July, while Old Trafford and The Oval will stage the fourth and fifth Tests, respectively.

Squad Overview

India’s squad for the England series features a balanced mix of youth and experience:

Shubman Gill (Captain), Rishabh Pant (Vice-Captain & Wicketkeeper), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav.

With a strong line-up and a fresh leadership core, India will look to make a bold statement in England.

This series not only offers WTC points but also sets the tone for the future of Indian Test cricket under Shubman Gill’s captaincy.
