Rohit Sharma Calls Padma Shri A Proud Milestone, Vows To Keep Delivering For India

Former India skipper Rohit Sharma has shared his appreciation after being conferred with the Padma Shri, one of the country’s most respected civilian awards. He described the recognition as a proud and emotional occasion for his family and a reminder of his responsibilities towards the nation.

In a message released by Doordarshan Sports on X, Rohit expressed his thanks to the Government of India and acknowledged the many individuals who supported him throughout his cricketing career.

Calling the honour deeply meaningful, he said “Receiving the Padma Shri is a very special moment for me and my family. I thank the Government of India for this honour. I am also grateful to all those people who have played an important role in my career. My effort to win matches and trophies for my country will always continue. Thank you. Jai Hind.”

Nearly Two Decades of Consistency

Rohit Sharma made his international debut in 2007 and has since enjoyed a long and distinguished career. Over the past 19 years, he has been a pillar of consistency for India across formats, earning respect as both a prolific batter and an astute leader.

His tenure as captain saw India return to the top on the global stage. In 2024, the men in blue lifted the ICC T20 World Cup after defeating South Africa in the final, ending a prolonged title drought in the format.

The following year, India added the Champions Trophy to their cabinet, further underlining Rohit’s success as a leader.

Rohit’s individual records underline his stature in world cricket. He has scored more than 4,300 runs in 67 Test matches, including 12 centuries. In ODIs, he has accumulated over 11,500 runs in 282 appearances, with 33 hundreds.

In T20 Internationals, his tally stands at over 4,231 runs, including five centuries.

Although Rohit has stepped away from Test and T20I cricket, he continues to play One-Day Internationals and remains determined to contribute significantly as India build towards the 2027 World Cup.
