Khawaja And Labuschagne Accuses an English Fan Verbally In The Fifth Ashes Test

After the disputed dismissal of Jonny Bairstow that led to Australia’s series-retaining victory, Usman Khawaja was attacked by a group of MCC spectators inside the Lord’s Long Room during the second match of the ongoing Ashes Test series. During the fifth and final Ashes game at the Kennington Oval in London last week, the Australia star and Marnus Labuschagne encountered a similar situation as a video emerged of an English fan loudly abusing Australian players.

Khawaja and Labuschagne fight against England fans

Day 3 of the contest was difficult for the Australian team as England sped to a huge lead thanks to a Bazball blitz scripted by Zak Crawley, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, and captain Ben Stokes. One of the Oval’s spectators was caught on camera chanting “boring” at each of the Australian players as they ascended the steps on their way back to the pavilion. While others chose to disregard Labuschagne and Khawaja’s treatment, they became enraged and charged at the fan.

Watch here:

Khawaja and David Warner were verbally attacked in an ugly altercation earlier this month in Lord’s Long Room after the Australian players went to the locker rooms. After confronting a member of the MCC, the two Australian hitters were eventually restrained by security, forcing umpire Chris Gaffaney to step in. After the Lord’s Test, MCC punished three players for their behavior towards the Australian team.

Ashes 2023

The majority of Sunday’s play was cancelled owing to severe rain in London, but Australian openers Khawaja and Warner put on a brave performance against a valiant 384-run chase. Before the game was called off, they put together an unbroken 135-run stand, each scoring their individual fifty. With 10 wickets in hand, Australia will start the final day of the Ashes series needing to score 249 runs.
