IPL Auction Unveils Roster: Mitchell Starc, Travis Head Back; Rachin Ravindra’s Base Price Stands At…

A list of the 333 players scheduled to go under the hammer in Dubai on December 19, ahead of the new season, has been released for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 Player Auction. The top three players on the list of 119 foreign players are Travis Head, Mitchell Starc, and Pat Cummins, all of whom are Australian World Cup winners. Starc, who played for RCB in 2014 and 2015, makes his Player Auction comeback after a 2018 absence, while Head was not sold before the 2023 Indian Premier League. Cummins, meanwhile, had withdrawn from the IPL 2023 because of his obligations abroad. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) paid Rs 9.4 crore to acquire Starc, but for the same reason, the player chose not to play.

Conversely, Head is expected to be in high demand during the Player Auction, having led Australia to their sixth World Cup victory in India earlier this year. He was a member of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for two seasons, from 2016 to 2017, but he hasn’t played in the lucrative league since.

With 23 players opting to be placed in the bracket, Starc, Cummins, and Head have all registered for the highest reserve price of Rs 2 crore. With a base price of Rs 2 crore, the other Australians who will participate in the auction are Josh Hazlewood, Steve Smith, Josh Abbott, and Josh Inglis.

Two of the 333 players are from associate nations. Of the 333 players, 214 are Indian and 119 are foreign players. In all, 116 players have caps, 215 have uncapped, and 2 are from associate nations, according to an official statement from the IPL.

“A maximum of 77 slots are now available with up to 30 being slotted for overseas players,” said the statement.

The top performers for New Zealand in the World Cup, Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra, have also registered for the competition with bases of Rs 1 crore and Rs 50 lakh, respectively.

Mitchell only appeared in two games for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2022, and Ravindra will probably play in the IPL for the first time the following year.

Gerald Coetzee, a pacer from South Africa who also had an unforgettable first World Cup campaign, has signed up for a base price of Rs 2 crore.

After registering for Rs 2 crore, India’s Shardul Thakur, Harshal Patel, and Umesh Yadav will all be placed in the highest bracket.

Before the retention day, KKR released both Thakur and Umesh, and RCB let go of former Purple Cap winner Harshal following a lacklustre performance in the previous season.

Unknown keeper-batter from England named Tom-Kohler Cadmore, who is known for his big-hitting ability across the leagues and has a base price of Rs 40 lakh, is someone who can spark a lot of interest.

Wanindu Hasaranga, who has a base price of Rs 1.5 crore, is back in the auction pool alongside Dilshan Madushanka, a World Cup winner and teammate, who may draw in some sizable bids.

Prices range from Rs 20 to Rs 30 lakh for the usual suspects, which include young pacers like Shivam Mavi, Kartik Tyagi, and the always-injured Kamlesh Nagarkoti.

The combined spending limit for the ten franchises is Rs 262.95 crore.
