IPL 2026: Rajasthan Royals Opt To Bowl First Against Gujarat Titans

Rajasthan Royals stand-in captain Yashasvi Jaiswal elected to bowl first after winning the toss against the Gujarat Titans in their IPL 2026 encounter at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Saturday evening.

Jaiswal assumed leadership duties after regular captain Riyan Parag sustained a hamstring strain during the previous match. The injury forced Parag to miss the fixture.

Rajasthan Royals introduced Shimron Hetmyer and Yash Raj Punja into the starting XI. The team made the changes for the match against Gujarat Titans.

During the toss presentation, Jaiswal stated that the surface appeared favourable for chasing later in the evening. He also expressed optimism regarding Parag’s recovery and hoped the regular skipper would return soon.

Rajasthan Royals came into the match aiming to bounce back following their defeat to Delhi Capitals in the previous outing. Although the franchise enjoyed an impressive beginning to the season with four victories in its first five matches, inconsistent performances in recent games affected its momentum.

Before the match, RR occupied fourth place in the standings with 12 points from 10 matches.

Gujarat Titans entered the contest after securing successive wins over Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Punjab Kings.

Led by Shubman Gill, the Titans stood fifth in the points table with 12 points. The team also had an opportunity to move into the top four with another victory.

The head-to-head record between the two sides favoured the Gujarat Titans, who had won six of their previous nine meetings against the Rajasthan Royals. RR, however, claimed victory when the teams last faced each other earlier in the tournament.

Speaking after the toss, Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill revealed that his side would also have preferred to bowl first under the conditions. He confirmed one alteration to the playing XI, with Prasidh Krishna returning in place of Manav Suthar.

Gill explained that the team had reflected on areas that contributed to its success this season and emphasised the importance of maintaining confidence in pressure situations. He added that close contests often depended on small moments and execution in crucial phases of the match.

The IPL 2026 playoff race has become increasingly competitive. Both teams viewed the Jaipur clash as a crucial opportunity to strengthen their positions in the standings.
