IPL 2026: KKR Opt To Bowl Against Delhi Capitals In Must-Win Clash

Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and opted to bowl first against Delhi Capitals in their final league fixture of the IPL 2026 on Sunday at Eden Gardens. The decision reflects the team’s strategy to chase under familiar conditions.

KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane said the side preferred to bowl first, citing favourable pitch conditions. He added that the team had performed well in recent matches and aimed to maintain that momentum.

Rahane also expressed confidence in his squad, confirming that KKR fielded an unchanged playing XI.

Delhi Capitals skipper Axar Patel remarked that his side would have also chosen to bowl first. He acknowledged that while the team did not perform poorly overall, it failed to capitalise on crucial moments during the tournament.

Patel emphasised the need to learn from these shortcomings and revealed that DC made two changes to their lineup.

KKR currently occupies sixth place on the points table, having secured six wins from 13 matches. Their chances of qualifying for the playoffs depend on both their performance and other results.

If Rajasthan Royals lose their earlier match, KKR could still secure a playoff berth with a convincing victory.

Three teams, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans, and Sunrisers Hyderabad, have already confirmed their playoff places.

The final spot remains up for grabs, with Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, and KKR still in contention.
