The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is unlikely to send Team India to Pakistan for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, IANS reported.
Instead, the BCCI is likely to propose a hybrid model to the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the prestigious tournament.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the dates for the ICC Champions Trophy from 19 February to 9 March 2025, with matches slated across Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Lahore.
However, the PCB has reportedly declined the possibility to accept a hybrid model for India’s matches, proposing Lahore as the base for Team India due to security concerns, including the high-profile India-Pakistan match.
Following the Indian government’s refusal to grant travel approval for the Asia Cup 2023, matches were relocated to Sri Lanka.
Since the Asia Cup in 2008, the Indian cricket team has refrained from playing in Pakistan, meeting only at ICC or ACC events.
In their latest encounter at the T20 World Cup 2024, India secured a notable victory over Pakistan by six runs during the group stage, subsequently clinching their second title.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 marks Pakistan’s first sole hosting of a major international cricket tournament.
Previously, Pakistan had co-hosted the 1996 Cricket World Cup with India and Sri Lanka, as well as the 1987 Reliance Cup alongside India.
