Lightning Strikes Claim Ten Lives Across Bihar In 24 Hours

In a tragic turn of events, ten individuals lost their lives due to lightning strikes across various districts in Bihar within the last 24 hours, officials reported on Thursday.

The fatalities occurred in Rohtas, Siwan, Kaimur, West Champaran, Supaul, Munger, and Banka districts.

The victims included both farmers and residents engaged in everyday activities when the lightning struck.

In Rohtas’s Nokha block, 55-year-old farmer Ram Pravesh Singh died instantly while seeking shelter under a blackberry tree during a storm.

Another victim, a young woman from Karaundi village in Natwar block, also perished due to a lightning strike, and a farmer in Sanjhauli Mathia village, Karakat block, succumbed to his injuries from the strike.

In Siwan district, a five-year-old girl tragically died while collecting mangoes during the storm in Odakpur village.

Lightning struck and killed a laborer from West Bengal’s Malda district while he was planting paddy in Nikhati Kala village.

In Kaimur, one person lost their life in the Mohaniya subdivision, while in West Champaran, farmer Suresh Yadav died, and Suman Ram was seriously injured while ploughing in Phulwaria village.

Ram is currently receiving treatment at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Bettiah.

Additional victims included a farmer in Dharmapatti village under the Raghopur police station area in Supaul district, a woman in Lagma village under Asarganj police station in Munger, and Janardan Mandal of Salempur Puranchak village under Amarpur police station in Banka district.

Authorities are conducting post-mortem examinations and providing medical care to the injured. In line with state regulations, the Bihar government will offer compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the families of the deceased.
