India Face West Indies In Ranchi As Selection Calls Take Centre Stage

India will look to build on their opening win when they meet West Indies in the second T20I at the JSCA International Stadium Complex on Friday.

The hosts won the first match in Lucknow by chasing 171 in only 14.4 overs, with Shreyas Iyer smashing an unbeaten 102 from 43 balls.

Iyer’s maiden T20I hundred has strengthened India’s middle order, but the team management faces decisions at both ends of the playing XI.

Sanju Samson has managed only 9, 7, 2 and 11 in his last four innings, putting his place under scrutiny.

India could consider handing teenager Vaibhav Sooryavanshi an opportunity alongside Abhishek Sharma. His aggressive approach could add further momentum during the powerplay.

The management must, however, decide whether Samson deserves another chance to regain his rhythm.

Mayank Yadav faces scrutiny after conceding 16 runs in his opening over in Lucknow. He eventually dismissed Sherfane Rutherford, who scored 56, but Naman Dhir led India’s bowling effort with 3-31.

Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel claimed two wickets apiece.

India could explore another pace combination, with Nitish Kumar Reddy offering an additional option. His effectiveness with the new ball, however, remains a consideration.

India’s spinners controlled the opening contest as Kuldeep and Axar restricted the visitors’ scoring.

West Indies will need greater consistency after losing three wickets during the powerplay despite half-centuries from Shai Hope and Rutherford.

Ranchi has slightly favoured chasing teams, with four of seven T20 matches won by sides batting second.

India’s 196/6 against Sri Lanka remains the venue’s highest total.
