Ganguly Silences Rohit-Dravid Trolls, Affirms Their Indispensability as India's Best
Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian captain, has put an end to the ongoing debate surrounding the captaincy and coaching of Team India. Despite the recent calls for change following India’s dominating victory over Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, Ganguly has firmly backed Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid as the best choices for leadership. His stance effectively silences the trolls and reaffirms the indispensability of Rohit and Dravid in shaping India’s cricketing future.
After India’s poor performance in the T20 World Cup in the UAE back in 2021, Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid both assumed leadership roles, and many people expected the pair to end the nation’s protracted drought for an ICC championship. India last claimed a significant ICC title in 2013, when MS Dhoni served as captain. India’s fate under Rohit and Rahul, however, has stayed the same; they were eliminated from the Asia Cup after losing to Pakistan and Sri Lanka, advanced to the semifinals of the T20 World Cup, and now suffered a humiliating loss in the World Test Championship.

Sourav Ganguly, former captain of India and ex-president of the BCCI, was questioned about whether he concurred that the team’s leadership needed to change in an interview with India Today. Ganguly thought that this was a “selector’s job” and a “huge decision” before he asked “how does social media influence” such significant decisions. Then, recognising that a major event is coming up, he backed Rohit and Rahul as the best prospects for the job.
Ganguly said “It’s a selector’s job at the end of the day but how does social media influence? Virat himself didn’t want to captain Test cricket two years ago. If you ask me who should be and will be India’s captain and coach? Rohit and Rahul that’s the right way of all.
“Absolutely, at least till the World Cup this will continue. Well I don’t know what’s in Rohit’s mind after the World Cup and what he wants to do. At the moment the coach and captain are the two best for India and I wish them all the luck,”.
