Tuesday, in Bhuj, Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Health Minister met with Rushikesh Ganeshbhai Patel, the state Health Minister, to discuss the preparations being made for cyclone Biparjoy by the Centre and the Gujarat government.
On June 15, Cyclone Biparjoy, a very severe cyclonic storm, is anticipated to pass through the Gujarat coast.
According to an official statement, the Ministry of Health is in constant communication with its regional offices in all states along the western coast (including Gujarat), with instructions to provide the necessary support to them in their cyclone preparation.
So yet, the minister has not received such a request.
Six multi-disciplinary central quick response medical teams, drawn from the Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital, Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC) and Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi, as well as the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (New Delhi), AIIMS (Jodhpur) and AIIMS (Nagpur), are kept on standby to provide emergency care and services.
“In addition, personnel from the NIMHANS in Bengaluru are on standby to give psychosocial care and assistance to any affected population”, the statement reads.
The Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) has been entrusted in all states with conducting post-disaster disease monitoring via the state or district surveillance units in order to detect any outbreak of epidemic-prone diseases in the aftermath of the cyclone.
“HLL Lifecare Limited has been tasked with supplying any logistical needs of the states”, the statement added.
The Union health ministry is closely monitoring the cyclone situation and is taking all essential precautions in case of a health emergency.
