From Blazing Debut To Silent Exit: Usman Khan Shinwari Hangs Up Pakistan Jersey

The left-arm Pakistani pacer Usman Khan Shinwari has announced his retirement from International Cricket after performing for six years in 34 international matches for Pakistan due to a persistent back injury that won’t stay quiet.

The 31-year-old took 13 T20I and 34 ODI wickets in just 16 T201 and 17 ODIs. His career best figures include two five-wicket hauls in 2017 and 2019, both against Sri Lanka.

He took part in the 2018 ACC Men’s ODI Asia Cup as a member of the Pakistan team.

He first caught the national selectors’ eye when he was just a teenager in 2013 after he jam-packed Misba-Ul-Haq’s SNGPL in the finals of the departmental T20 Cup.

Usman bowled an astonishing spell after taking five wickets in just 3.1 overs and giving nine runs.

In the same year, he made his debut against Sri Lanka in T20I and then later made Test and ODI debuts against the very same opponent.

Usman’s career graph was only going up until 2019, when he made his Test debut, where he bowled 15 overs and took only one wicket in Rawalpindi.

After which, he was off the radar of the selectors and eventually lost his Pakistan contract.

Later in 2021, he announced his retirement from red-ball cricket as well.
