David Miller Urges South Africa To Trust the Process Ahead Of 2027 World Cup

South African batter David Miller has made World Cup success one of his key targets as the Proteas prepare for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia will jointly host the tournament.

Miller is preparing to return to ODI cricket after an absence of more than 18 months when South Africa face Australia in a three-match series.

Miller acknowledged that winning the World Cup remains a shared ambition among international players and teams.

“The Cricket World Cup is obviously a quest and a dream come true. Every player, every team going to the World Cup, wants to win the World Cup,” he said.

South Africa have reached the semi-finals in 2015 and 2023 but could not progress further. Miller featured in the 2015 campaign, when Australia edged the Proteas in the last-four clash.

The experienced batter believes South Africa can improve their prospects by keeping their preparation and playing philosophy aligned.

“Sometimes, when you’re striving too much for something, errors come into play, and you kind of get frantic, and you don’t think clearly,” he said.

Home Tournament Offers Extra Incentive

Miller said the opportunity to participate in a World Cup hosted in South Africa would make the occasion particularly memorable.

“Being at a World Cup in itself is amazing. But being at home is something even more special. It would be a dream come true,” he said.

The 37-year-old, however, recognised that he must produce consistent performances in the coming series to earn selection.

Miller has an impressive ODI record against Australia, averaging 57.38 against them compared with his overall career average of 42.3. He has also registered three centuries against the Australians, including a career-best 139.

“I do enjoy playing against Australia,” Miller said, adding that competing against elite players provides an opportunity to test and improve his standards.
