BCCI To Assess India’s Form, Fitness Concerns And Long-Term Cricket Strategy

The Board of Control for Cricket in India will conduct its long-awaited review meeting at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai on September 3.

Senior office bearers will join head coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and Centre of Excellence chief VVS Laxman for the meeting.

The BCCI had originally planned the review after India finished their England tour in July.

The board wanted to analyse the T20I defeats against England and Ireland as well as the ODI series loss to England.

Officials later postponed the meeting. India had to play a T20I series in Zimbabwe first, followed by a Test series in Sri Lanka.

The Indian team won both assignments, taking the Zimbabwe series 3-0 and the Sri Lanka series 1-0.

The upcoming discussions will examine the senior men’s team’s performances and assess the areas that need greater attention.

Player fitness will feature prominently, particularly with several members of the squad dealing with injury concerns.

The provisional squad for the Afghanistan T20I series includes Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Harshit Rana.

Hardik Pandya’s absence from the Afghanistan series has become another concern for the team management.

India continue to view the all-rounder as an important component of their plans for the 2027 Men’s ODI World Cup. His latest shin injury has created uncertainty over the amount of workload he can handle while performing both seam-bowling and batting duties in ODI cricket.

The board will review India’s preparations for the multi-format tour of New Zealand. It will assess plans for the home Border-Gavaskar Trophy series and the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Separately, the BCCI will conduct its Annual General Meeting on September 18.

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly and representatives from several state associations are expected to participate in the gathering.
