At least 16 people were killed and 28 others injured after a bus overturned on the Dahab-Nuweiba road in Egypt’s South Sinai on Wednesday.

According to local media reports citing the Health and Population Ministry, the bus was travelling towards Nuweiba when the accident occurred near the Al-Saada area.

Twenty ambulances reached the site to evacuate the victims and provide first aid.

Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar directed officials to ensure the injured received the highest level of medical care. Solidarity Minister Maya Morsy also ordered emergency relief and support for those affected.

The latest accident follows another deadly crash in August. Eighteen people died and 30 others were injured after two vehicles carrying workers collided in Ismailia Governorate.

Authorities launched a probe after security forces and ambulance teams reached the scene.

Egypt recorded a 10.8 per cent rise in road deaths in 2025. Fatalities reached 5,829, according to CAPMAS figures reported by Ahram Online.

Road injuries increased 10.7 per cent to 84,553. Children under 15 recorded the highest number of fatalities among age groups, with 1,580 deaths and 29,101 injuries reported in 2025.
