BCCI Pushes For More Player Recovery Time In 2027–31 FTP Cycle

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) plans to push for more player recovery time while preparing the international cricket calendar for the 2027–31 cycle, with its operations team likely to attend an upcoming Future Tours Programme (FTP) workshop in Dubai.

The workshop will take place on September 22 and 23, where representatives from cricket boards will discuss the next FTP.

Operations teams from other full-member boards are expected to participate, while officials from the top eight Associate nations will receive invitations.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said the board has directed its FTP officials to factor in adequate rest and acclimatisation when planning future international assignments. He said the board wants teams travelling to SENA countries to have opportunities for friendly matches before major series.

The push follows a growing list of injuries among Indian players, with Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar and B Sai Sudharsan among those who have missed recent assignments.

Saikia pointed to the demanding schedule, including the two-month IPL stint followed by international matches, as a major concern.

The BCCI is considering a greater role for multilateral tournaments in the international calendar.

India last played a multilateral series in 2018, when they featured in the Nidahas Trophy.

India last hosted a multilateral tournament in 2003–04, involving Australia and New Zealand.

Since the 2011 World Cup, India have featured in three multilateral ODI series, including tournaments in Australia and the West Indies.

The move could help revive interest in international cricket as bilateral series attract less attention than before.
