Asian Games: Neeru Dhanda Clinches Historic Women’s Trap Gold With Asian Record

Indian shooter Neeru Dhanda created history on Tuesday by winning the women’s trap individual gold at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya. She produced an Asian record score of 28 in the final at the Aichi Prefecture General Shooting Gallery.

Dhanda had topped the qualification round with 118 points. Her final performance made her the first Indian woman to win an Asian Games gold in the individual trap event. She became the first Indian medallist in the discipline’s individual category at the Games.

Dhanda had earlier secured silver in the women’s trap team event with Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer.

The Indian trio finished with 328 points after the 125-shot qualification round. They held off Kuwait to claim silver.

Dhanda faced an early setback in the final. She missed her ninth shot and briefly slipped to third place. She responded strongly in the next two series. Perfect shooting lifted her to the lead with 19 hits from 20 shots.

She retained the advantage despite one miss in the fifth series. Dhanda then sealed the gold with five straight hits.

China’s Yunong Sun won silver with 26. Kuwait took bronze with 21.

The victory gave India its second shooting gold at the 2026 Asian Games. It was India’s fifth gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Games.

Dhanda had earlier made history at the ISSF World Cup in Lonato, Italy. She became the first Indian woman to win an individual World Cup gold in women’s trap.
