PM Modi, Amit Shah Congratulate Indian Archers On Asian Games Gold

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated Indian archers Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Prithika Pradeep and Chikitha Taniparthi after the trio won gold in the women’s compound team event at the Asian Games 2026 on Wednesday.

The Indian team defeated China 238-234 in the final at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Square to retain the gold medal.

Their score of 238 also equalled the world record set by South Korea at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon.

PM Modi congratulated the three archers in a post on X, describing their gold medal and world-record-equalling performance as a major achievement for Indian archery. He also extended his best wishes to the team for its future competitions.

“A Gold for India! Congratulations to Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Prithika Pradeep and Chikitha Taniparthi on winning the Gold Medal in the Women’s Compound Team event at the Asian Games 2026,” PM Modi said.

He added that the performance was especially significant because the trio had equalled the world record.

Amit Shah also congratulated the Indian women’s compound archery team for its gold medal-winning performance. He said the archers demonstrated focus, determination and strength while competing under pressure.

“India takes a golden bow,” Shah posted on X, adding that the nation was celebrating the team’s victory and wishing the archers more success.

India beat South Korea in the semi-final before defeating China 238-234 in the final to retain gold.

The trio led 119-116 after the second end and 178-175 in the third before finishing with all 10s to equal the world record.

The victory strengthened India’s Asian Games campaign with a record-equalling gold.
