Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Indian athletes Gulveer Singh, Pooja and the men’s 4x400m relay team after their medal-winning performances at the Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026.
Gulveer Singh won bronze in the 5000m final in 13:32.75, adding to his silver medals in the 10,000m and 1500m. His three-medal haul made him the first Indian athlete in 40 years to win three medals at one Asian Games.
The Prime Minister praised Gulveer’s consistency, endurance and determination in a message shared by the PMO on X. PM Modi also wished the athlete continued success in his future competitions.

PM Modi also congratulated Pooja after she won bronze in the women’s high jump. Her medal marked India’s first Asian Games podium finish in the event in more than two decades.
The Prime Minister described the achievement as a proud moment for Indian athletics and called it a memorable performance, while extending his best wishes to Pooja for her upcoming endeavours.

India’s men’s 4x400m relay team also earned PM Modi’s praise after securing bronze with a season-best time of 3:01.61. The quartet comprised Dharmveer Choudhary, Manu Thekkinalil Saji, Jay Kumar and Vishal Thennarasu.
Congratulating the relay team, PM Modi praised their performance and expressed hope that their success would help increase the popularity of athletics in the years ahead.
The Prime Minister’s messages followed a strong day for Indian athletics, with medals in multiple relay events.

India’s women’s 4x400m relay team of Kiran Pahal, MR. Poovamma, Prachi Choudhary and Vithya Ramraj won gold in 3:29.69, securing the country’s first Asian Games gold in the event.

The mixed 4x100m team also won bronze in a national-record 41.06 seconds.
