After being “timed-out” for the first time in cricket history, Angelo Mathews angrily tosses his helmet

Angelo Mathews became the first cricket player to be “timed-out” in history during the Sri Lanka-Bangladesh match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, causing bizarre scenes. The incident happened in the 25th over, when Shakib Al Hasan, the captain of Bangladesh, filed an appeal to have Mathews dismissed.

Notably, Mathews took his crease inside the allotted time, but he was unable to face the delivery because his helmet strap snapped off. As a result, Shakib filed the appeal.

A batter has been given out in this manner for the first time in the history of cricket. A fresh batter must face a delivery within three minutes of the preceding wicket, according to the rule.

Though Mathews arrived at the crease in time, his helmet broke off as he was repairing it. This is the text of the rules.

When Mathews heard Shakib pleading for his release, he was taken aback. Even after consulting the Bangladeshi skipper, he got no assistance from him. Mathews eventually turned to walk back to the pavilion, where he angrily hurled his helmet.
