Think Your Daily Walk Is Healthy? These Common Mistakes May Be Doing More Harm Than Good

Walking remains one of the simplest and most effective forms of physical activity, but health experts caution that several common mistakes can reduce its benefits and increase the risk of discomfort or injury.

Reports and fitness specialists emphasise that improper walking techniques often prevent individuals from achieving their desired fitness outcomes.

Medical professionals highlighted poor posture as one of the most frequent mistakes.

Slouching, looking downward constantly, or tightening the shoulders places unnecessary strain on the neck and spine.

Experts recommend maintaining an upright posture with relaxed shoulders and forward-facing vision for improved movement and breathing efficiency.

Wearing unsuitable footwear also affects walking efficiency. Ill-fitting or unsupportive shoes may trigger foot pain, blisters, knee strain, and muscle fatigue.

Specialists advise using cushioned walking shoes with proper arch support and flexibility.

Fitness experts further noted that walking too slowly reduces cardiovascular benefits and calorie expenditure.

Brisk walking at a steady pace improves endurance and overall fitness. Repeating identical walking routines daily can also limit physical progress.

Experts encourage varying pace, terrain, and intensity levels for better results.

Health specialists additionally warned against scrolling on mobile phones while walking because it disrupts posture and concentration.

Skipping warm-up sessions, neglecting hydration, and overstriding can also increase muscle stress and joint pressure.

Experts stressed that consistency remains crucial. Moderate daily walking combined with proper technique, hydration, balanced fitness routines, and supportive footwear delivers better long-term health outcomes than occasional excessive exercise sessions.
