Dr Sudipto De Highlights Diet Choices That Support Hormonal Balance And Cellular Health

As October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, health experts across the globe are emphasising the role of lifestyle and diet in prevention.

Dr Sudipto De, a robotic cancer surgeon at Metro Hospitals, Delhi NCR, has shed light on five foods that can play a vital role in lowering the risk of breast cancer.

In a recent video shared on social media, Dr De, who specialises in genetics and onco-nutrition, urged people to make small but meaningful dietary adjustments.

“Fill your plate with whole grains, olive oil, fruits, and nuts, and see big protection alongside small changes,” he advised.

Dr De recommends adopting the Mediterranean diet, which includes whole grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and occasional fish. Central to this diet is extra virgin olive oil, known for its healthy fats.

“Olive oil supports cellular repair and provides good fats essential for cell health,” he explained.

Fibre: A Natural Hormone Regulator

Highlighting the importance of dietary fibre, Dr De stated that it helps regulate hormones and flush out toxins from the body.

“Fibre found in oats, lentils, beans, and chickpeas maintains oestrogen balance. Research shows that an extra 10 grams of fibre daily can lower breast cancer risk,” he said.

Sulforaphane is a compound found in cruciferous vegetables such as cauliflower, cabbage, kale, and broccoli. It slows cancer cell growth and supports healthy oestrogen metabolism.

Flaxseeds, he noted, contain lignans, powerful phytoestrogens that help stabilise hormones and inhibit tumour growth.

Dr De also praised berries for their antioxidant properties, saying, “Strawberries and other berries help reduce oxidative damage to cells, offering natural protection.”

As Breast Cancer Awareness Month continues, Dr De’s advice serves as a reminder that prevention begins with everyday choices. “Nutrition is one of the simplest, yet most powerful tools for long-term health,” he concluded.
