Supreme Court Collegium Recommends Four High Court Judges As Chief Justices

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended four High Court judges for appointment as Chief Justices of the Gujarat, Delhi, Telangana and Uttarakhand High Courts.

The Collegium issued its recommendations on October 26, 2026, following a meeting to consider senior judicial appointments.

According to Bar and Bench, the recommendations cover four judges currently serving in different High Courts. The proposed appointments aim to fill key judicial leadership positions.

The Collegium has recommended Justice Manash Ranjan Pathak, currently serving at the Gujarat High Court, for appointment as its Chief Justice.

It has proposed Justice P Sam Koshy of the Telangana High Court for the position of Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty of the Calcutta High Court has been recommended to head the Telangana High Court.

The Collegium has further recommended Justice Sudhir Singh of the Patna High Court for appointment as Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court.

These recommendations involve appointments and transfers across the four High Courts. They form part of the judicial system’s established process for selecting senior judges to lead High Courts.

The Collegium system plays a central role in recommending judicial appointments and transfers. The Supreme Court Collegium evaluates candidates and forwards its recommendations to the Union government for further processing.

The latest proposals concern leadership positions in four High Courts. However, the recommendations do not constitute final appointments.

The process must proceed through the prescribed constitutional and administrative steps before the appointments take effect.

The proposed elevations mark a significant development in the leadership of the four High Courts. Further official notifications will clarify when the recommended judges formally assume their new responsibilities.
