Supreme Court Justice Vikram Nath visited the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) campus in a landmark event, marking the first official visit by a serving judge of the Supreme Court in the Commission’s history.
During the visit, Justice Nath inaugurated the newly built Aditya Patanjali Yogpeetham and unveiled a large statue of Swami Vivekananda.
The centre features different Surya Namaskar postures and displays the contributions of India’s Nobel laureates, offering visitors a space for yoga, spiritual reflection and inspiration.
Justice Nath recalled his association with the Commission and praised the Kalpavriksha Museum, its artistic exhibits, the green campus and UPPSC’s transparent selection process.
Referring to Articles 315–323 of the Constitution, Justice Nath highlighted the safeguards designed to help public service commissions function impartially.
“In a court of law, neither influence nor power speaks; only evidence and reasoning do. In the same way, recruitment must be guided not by favour or identity, but only by merit,” he stated.
Justice Nath added that public servants shape governance for decades through their work and stressed that authorities must maintain impartiality and demonstrate it clearly.
Welcoming Justice Nath, UPPSC Chairman Sanjay Sreenet said the judiciary and recruitment institutions shared a common foundation of public trust. He noted that courts assure citizens of justice, while recruitment bodies uphold their constitutional right to equal opportunity.
Justice Nath visited Bodhi Sangam, a space designed to encourage candidates to reflect on their journeys into public service. He toured the Kalpavriksha Museum, housed in a building dating to 1868, and inspected Haldighati Shaurya Sthal, which features a Dandi March replica, statues of freedom fighters and the Ashoka Pillar.
Justice Nath inaugurated 12 newly constructed residences at Vrindavan Officers’ Housing and released the Commission’s official calendar. He honoured employees for their service, including Omkarnath Singh, Prem Chandra Maurya, Shrinath, Prakash Chandra Singh, Dinesh Pratap Pandey, Ramesh Kumar Bharti, Virendra Singh and Phool Chandra.
UPPSC member Major General (Dr) Manoj Kumar presented an overview of the Commission’s modern working methods and transparent procedures, while member Dr AK Verma delivered the vote of thanks.
Former Supreme Court Justice Ashok Bhushan, High Court judges, senior advocates, Commission members, district officials and UPPSC staff attended the event.
