The Rouse Avenue Court has issued a notice to BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj on a review petition filed by AAP leader and former Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain.
The court has sought a reply and scheduled the next hearing for April 15.
Jain challenged the Magistrate Court’s decision in the Sessions Court. Special Judge Jitendra Singh had summoned the lower court’s records in the last hearing.
Earlier, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Neha Mittal had refused to order prosecution against Swaraj.
During the hearing, Swaraj’s lawyer opposed Jain’s defamation complaint. He argued that the case is politically motivated and should not proceed.
Jain claimed that Swaraj made false statements in a TV interview on October 5, 2023, damaging his reputation.
According to Jain’s petition, Swaraj alleged that ₹3 crore, 1.8 kg of gold, and 133 gold coins were recovered from his residence.
Jain also stated that Swaraj called him ‘fake’ during the interview.
He argued that these remarks misled the public and harmed his image.
Jain was arrested on May 30, 2022, in a money laundering case and remained in jail for a long time before securing bail.
The CBI had filed an FIR against him in 2017. His legal troubles have been ongoing, and this defamation case adds another layer to the dispute.
The court’s decision to seek Swaraj’s response marks the next step in the case.
The outcome of the April 15 hearing will determine whether the Sessions Court allows Jain’s petition to proceed.
